The Samkalpa Sessions
Samkalpa ( pronounced Sun-kalpa ) simply means intention.
And I’ve been finding more and more that establishing a clear intention for every spell of time I spend in practice helps keep me focused and present for whatever arises.
Intention, I find, is well supported by the use of Mudra. Placing the hands this way or that may seem superfluous until you start working with it regularly. Each time you form the specific shape with your hands in practice you’re reminded of the intention you set at the start of the session. You plug right into it and consequently Mudra is a great tool to keep you present and clear of distraction. And energetically, the five elements of the body are harnessed in finger placement to support intention.
The use of sound is also a powerful tool to lean into different chakras to assist that immersion in intention. I have returned to sound personally after a spell in the wilderness of a kooky little hearing issue. Music was an integral part of my upbringing and it’s use in healing and supporting wellness can be quite profound. It feels like coming home to be integrating my voice in mantra and using crystal bowls and other beautiful elements of sound into my sessions.
This Saturday afternoon session will start with Yin-spired gentle movement interlaced with Mudra, followed by a restorative Yoga Nidra meditation, layered with sung mantra and sound vibrations, bringing together all the elements that I know affect all the Koshas, the layers of our being so deeply. We will weave heartfelt intention into the entire practice.
This class will run from 4pm til 6pm. Lots of time to really become really immersed in your practice.
The Samkalpa Sessions are always aligned with the moon cycles too, allowing us to cultivate grounding and steadiness under intense full moon energy. Each one works with chakra energy specific to what is relevant at that time, and the elements of mudra and mantra will be tailored accordingly and threaded through the session.
The last Samkalpa Session is available to be booked now via my booking page and it’s a $50 class at Soulspace, Wonthaggi and there are limited places available. That’s why I’m giving you lots of advance notice! Get your diaries out Yogis.

Woman : Breathe
The first in a new series offered to support women, whatever stage of life they are in. This one is about breath work. It’s fundamental to living our most present lives.
Woman : Breathe is a ninety minute workshop exploring how confidence with Pranayama, breath work, can support women through all aspects of our lives.
The breath is an incredible tool when you know how to use it.
Mood states, energy levels, our posture and movement are all affected by the way we breathe. And most people don't have access to this transformational information.
Pranayama has an air of complication and mystery. It just doesn’t need to be that way. Adjusting the way you breathe to support how you’re feeling should be as simple as changing the temperature of water flowing from your faucet.
It's time to make the practice simple, giving you confidence in how to use your breath and letting it be a valuable tool to support your life. Breathing intentionally.
The $38 session is on Saturday October 28 from 4pm - 530pm at Soulspace, Wonthaggi.

Soulspace Group Classes
Slow Flow is a breath centered slow paced class, suitable for all levels, where we move through from pose to pose in a flowing style. Some poses are held but for no more than three or four breaths, and all holds are your choice to undertake. Modifications to poses, as well as optional poses are offered so that you can remain stable and appropriately challenged in the movement.
The practice is steeped in mindfulness and inclusivity, with a sprinkling of Tantra elements to enliven the senses and to leave you with a sense of balance and well-being. Slow Flow is on Thursdays at 1:15pm.
On Sunday mornings at 9am, Easy Like Sunday Morning takes a similar interoceptive approach, but we start lying down and easing into the session, building towards a balancing standing sequence later on.
